My husband completed the fencing and the overhead bird netting installation over the garden yesterday. This 1,850 square-foot garden area, representing 1.8% of our property, we call Effieland.
The enclosure keeps deer and other foragers out of the garden, and will also protect Effie from raptors, as well as coyotes, foxes, errant dogs, raccoons, other cats, and cougars (which are rare here, but one who greeted a man in his barn a couple miles away was summarily shot).
Effie loves being out more than I can manage the time and the heat, and now she is safer for daytime outdoor outings on her own, but she will never be out at night or while we are gone from home. She sleeps, drinks water from the drippers, chases bugs, clicks her teeth at birds, and generally enjoys life and nature. I join her throughout the day as much as I can, and encourage her to return indoors to keep up her house cat skills.

Drippers have the best drinking water in the whole world!
This is my place. . .
and I really like it here!
