Friend Turtle was there again today, taking his time floating and swimming to his rock.
My husband persevered, but no one was biting–I guess too warm for trout to be hungry.
Black locust trees line the path. . .
and make intriguing shadows.

Completely agree. It’s no good making laws and then just doing as you please…

I thought hunting them was illegal as they’re a protected species! That’s terrible-he’d definitely get cheap teabags.(no biscuits either)

Perhaps it’s legal in Russia. . .

Just Googled it…apparently it IS illegal world-wide, yet poaching is on the increase. What’s the matter with the man? Where’s the glory in murdering a beautiful animal for a trophy when it’s so much better to leave it in its own fur alive and wonderful. Ranting…sorry…

Don’t be sorry! I agree with you, and I appreciate you looking it up. I don’t know whether or not Russia is a signatory on an international compact. No one should be acting outside the law–if they are subject to it.

It’s nice to see them in their natural environment, I’ve seen them in petshops here and always feel sorry for them.

You could buy them all and release them if you live near a turtle-friendly pond! Various considerations permitting, of course.

Hmmm…The Underground Rescue (of) Turtles Liberation Event….has a ring to it, don’t you think? Are you in? We could have a password and everything!

I think TURTLE is a great concept! But I think our only two local pet shops don’t have turtles. I just buy catnip mouses and kitty litter there. I think it’s going to have to be the Brits’ turn to stage a rebellion.

Well, we’ll probably have to sit down and have a cup of tea first, while we think, and possibly a bit of a referendum….

You Brits are so civilized about these things!

A nice cup of tea and a good talk would solve a lot of the world’s problems…

I know President Putin is an avid tea drinker; I just can’t get past his passion for hunting tigers. You know–they’re like tabbies–700-lb Effies!
I think large mugs of coffee would catalyze a lot of solutions, too. 🙂

Ha ha ha! Love it! I’ve seen nature programmes with alligator turtles, think that’s their name that have a truly fearsome bite that can sever fingers..your turtle looks quite happy and friendly though!

These red-eared turtles grow huge in the wild, but they’re the little pet shop turtles people buy and stunt their growth in small bowls and aquariums.

Fascinated by turtle pics, I’ve only ever seen them in petshops!

They’re absolutely wonderful creatures. Ogden Nash wrote this humorous verse:
“The turtle lives ‘twixt plated decks
Which practically conceal its sex.
I think it clever of the turtle
In such a fix to be so fertile.”
