Asotin Creek

Aspiring to a hike with the possibility (probably very small) of seeing bighorn sheep in the Asotin Creek Wildlife Area, we headed out into brightly sunlit canyon country, about half an hour from home. The bright-gold poplars, scarlet sumac, and ruggedly rosy basalt canyons made for a beautiful drive.

Somehow it never entered our minds that we would need a Discovery Pass to park our car anywhere so that we could get out and hike. Okay, so Monday I’ll pick up a pass at Schurman’s. . . . But for today, the rocks and autumn colors provided refreshing roadside scenery near to, yet away from, home.
